Paul Dunn, RN, MSN, FNP

Paul Dunn practices the full scope of family medicine from school-aged children to “seniors.” Mr. Dunn has over 35 years of experience in health care. He served as an emergency dept nurse at Duke in the 1980s followed by 24 years at the UNC Department of Family Medicine where he served as a clinical associate professor. This was followed by 8 years at UNC Family Medicine at Hillsborough and 3 years at Chapel Hill Primary Care.

In the early 2000s he had the honor of working with educators of nurses and physicians in Yerevan, Armenia, as part of a USAID project. In the 1970s he served 6 years in the US Air Force as a medic.
He keeps a “special place” in his heart for the health care of military veterans. He cherishes diversity of age, race and culture in his practice. In addition to English he speaks rudimentary Icelandic.

Mr. Dunn attended college at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh and obtained his master’s degree at UNC Chapel Hill. He is a past chair of the Governor’s Taskforce of Patterns of Diabetes Care in North Carolina. He has traveled throughout the state offering workshops on diabetes care and eye care. He is a past adjunct professor in the UNC Departments of Nursing and Pharmacy.

All his patients get his best. He wants to keep his patients educated about preventing illnesses and comforted and informed when and if disease happens. His own experience with cancer and his family experience with death from diabetes have always informed his practice.

He lives in Hillsborough with his beautiful wife and has a son working in the furniture industry in Hickory NC. He admits he loves the South and is not returning to live in Massachusetts any time soon.

Tyffany Nyland, FNP

Tyffany Nyland is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who enjoys caring for people of all ages. She has over 10 years of experience in the healthcare industry but her interests lie in urgent care and preventative medicine. Tyffany attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree. While studying at UNC, she volunteered as a medical team senior with UNC’s Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC), a student led free health clinic for local underserved individuals and communities. After graduation, Tyffany began the Carolinas HealthCare System’s advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) urgent care fellowship program. As a fellow, she rotated through various urgent care facilities and medical specialties such as sports medicine, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, pediatrics, and radiology including interventional radiology. Tyffany truly loves her career choice. In Tyffany’s opinion, it was the combination of her education, clinical rotations, volunteering, and participation in a post-graduation fellowship that helped her become a confident, efficient, and high-quality healthcare provider. It will be her honor to help care for the Hillsborough and surrounding community at IndyCare.

Tyffany was born and raised in Massachusetts, however over the past 7 years, North Carolina has become home. She met her husband here in North Carolina and they are excited to have just welcomed a new bundle of joy to their family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, traveling, and learning the ropes of motherhood.
